Bordeaux: Who Am I? The Mind and Body in History

Friday, September 27, 2019 - 08:00 to Sunday, September 29, 2019 - 20:00

CL1091FB10 Autobiographical Writing

HI1091FB10 Introduction To The History Of The Body

Unesco named Bordeaux a World Heritage Site for its beautiful architecture and urban planning, but also because of its rich cultural legacy. The city鈥檚 most famous son, Michel de Montaigne, invented the personal essay as a literary form and even served as mayor from 1581 to 1585. On this trip, visit the ch芒teau where he did most of his writing, and take another excursion to a vineyard in Saint-Emilion and the surrounding wine country. Other activities include writing and discussions, which, like our stops at museums and sites of historical importance, are designed to complement the Firstbridge courses Autobiographical Writing (where Montaigne鈥檚 essays are studied) and Introduction to the History of the Body (which examines the body across time and space).
