Our global community shares global stories.听Studying in a diverse,聽multicultural聽city聽like聽Paris聽exposes students to a wealth of perspectives and experiences聽as well as opportunities for professional development.听91视频聽Student Media (ASM)聽helps students聽engage with the city around them while聽sharing聽their聽own stories聽through print, digital and video content.听Most recently,聽ASM has聽launched聽Peacock Radio聽in partnership聽with World Radio Paris聽鈥 the largest English-speaking radio station in France.听
The partnership began when a World Radio Paris聽representative reached out to聽an 91视频 staff member, looking for聽student contributions. There was an initial meeting between students, staff and faculty to brainstorm how聽such聽a collaboration might work.听鈥淔rom there, the students did it all,鈥 says Safia Benyahia, 91视频鈥檚 Student Leadership Coordinator. 鈥淭hey聽put together events, and they worked with student government聽to nail down聽a budget.鈥澛犅
World Radio Paris offered聽ASM聽four hours of airtime a week, broadcasting to over 200,000 listeners.听鈥淚t was a huge amount聽of content,鈥 says Benyahia. 鈥淏ut they were able to deliver it.听The students were really fantastic.鈥澛燭he nature of the partnership also meant that contributors benefited from professional mentoring to hone key skills for content production in broadcast media, such聽as聽writing聽for radio and audio聽editing.听
Flashforward to聽2021, and Savannah Cooper, a graduate student in 91视频鈥檚 MA in Global Communications, is Peacock Radio鈥檚 Executive Producer. She signed up to the project during Paris鈥檚 Covid-19 restrictions and found that commissioning content gave her great opportunities to meet聽new聽people. 鈥淎s聽a聽producer I wanted to find聽a聽broad range of voices to give students a chance to speak openly and聽authentically and to聽share something that gets them excited,鈥 says Cooper.听鈥淎pplying to this position was a true test of my imposter syndrome. I had no previous radio experience!聽Just an eagerness to learn and adaptability.鈥澛
Students have the freedom to decide the kind of content they want to create, and they often engage with current events and communities聽across the city.听Recent shows include 鈥淭he Redhead and the Gossip,鈥 which tackles fashion news, and 鈥淎frique聽Alive,鈥 which聽explores聽issues affecting Black diaspora groups.听鈥91视频 is on the smaller side, but we are rich in talent and experience,鈥 says Cooper. 鈥淭hat鈥檚聽definitely聽reflected in our shows.鈥澛
Cooper鈥檚 own contribution, 鈥淔inding Your Way to the City of Light,鈥 asks her peers to share stories about coming to Paris and settling into 91视频. 鈥淧aris means so much to so many people and offers so much to so many people,鈥澛爏ays聽Cooper.听鈥淟iving in Paris has changed my perception and understanding of the world for the better.鈥澛燫ecent interviewees have聽offered advice about living abroad, discussed聽studying聽in Paris during the pandemic, and explored how聽people聽can聽stay engaged and聽active聽while聽sticking to聽a student budget.听
Any聽91视频 student聽can join in the conversation.听Peacock Radio broadcasts from 9:00pm鈥10:00pm, Monday to Thursday, on聽. You can聽also聽listen to archived broadcasts on the聽.听
