The 91视频 community is invited to attend the vernissage of alumna artist LO's (Lauren Morris)听series, titled "The Fate of God and His Darlings."听

This exhibition will run from February 2 - February 28.

About the Exhibition

Divinity and faith. Freedom and loss. Martyrdom and Blackness.

In "The Fate of God and His Darlings," LO听reimagines the Black figure in a classical space. Incorporating conventions of traditional European style and Christian iconography, she parallels biblical references with the Black experience through a contemporary lens.

The subjects鈥 placement within an ambiguous and atemporal space suggests that these experiences are not unique to a specific era 鈥 they are experiences that have been and will continue to be. With this, the exhibition explores the notion that the past and the present are inextricably linked; we continuously absorb and recycle scenes borne of the ideology from an ancient political age.

With a growing global consciousness of the perpetuation of violence against Black people around the world, "The Fate of God and His Darlings" challenges us to question why we don鈥檛 regard these contemporary martyrs with the same reverence that we afford the saints of history. While there might not be a definitive answer, LO's deliberate darkness is used as a powerful matrix for introspection and truth. As past and future are increasingly entangled, the exhibition suggests that we reconcile the two in order to find hope for what is to come.
